ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Yasmine Essence Soria.

I’m a Latina photographer living and working in the Chicago area. I love to explore and share my unique perceptions of the world through my lens. While much of my work is centered on digital photography, I have a deep love for film—it adds a timeless quality to my photos that I find truly magical. I draw inspiration from the incredible work of Vivian Maier, Gregory Crewdson, and Christina Fernandez.

Photography is more than a hobby or a job to me—I want to create art that inspires. I want to make sure a picture isn’t just a picture but a piece of art that tells a story.

My journey in photography began in high school, when I was journalist and photographer for my school newspaper and yearbook. It led me to study at Columbia College Chicago, where I dove into the world of studio and film photography. That time was incredibly rewarding—I made wonderful friends, built a network of creative minds, and gained invaluable experience.  I also had the opportunity to have my work displayed in the For Women, By Women Gallery, an exhibition space that celebrates all women and nonbinary artists, from 2022 to 2024.

Chicago has been the perfect backdrop for my creative growth. Its stunning architecture, rich history, and diverse mix of people have deeply influenced my work and pushed me to explore new creative heights to bring a special touch to every photo I take.

While I’ve explored various photography styles, portraiture is where my heart truly lies. I love capturing those authentic, special moments that showcase who you are and make you feel confident.  I've always felt awkward when I had my picture taken. I would get stuck in my head asking myself, “Do I look weird? Should I fix my hair? Where do I put my hands?” It was worse when the person behind the camera would stare at me stone faced, waiting for me to stop fidgeting so they could take the picture. I want to create an experience that feels natural and empowering. Whether you’re gearing up for a new job or just want to freeze a special memory, I want you to be able to not shy away from the lens but feel proud to be in front it.

My goal as your photographer is to leave you with portraits that you’ll cherish for years to come.
